I spent a lot of years wondering what kind of person starts their own audio company, and then it just sort of happened to me when I was tired of not making things the way I wanted to and there was no other path forward. Jessica Alpert and I started Rococo Punch in a spare bedroom in my apartment in Boston, and we made something we’re really proud of.
It sounds simple, but we only brought in talented folks who are also good people. And I mean very talented, amazing collaborators. Folks who are always ready to dive into a project, even when we have no idea what we are making yet. Together, we have made some kick-your-dick-off great shows.
And yes, awards are great, but let’s be honest: Almost everyone is award-winning in this industry. Go ahead and stack up a pile of Webbys and see how much closer you can get to the stars. For me, the real value in making things – call it art, journalism, documentary, entertainment – has always been getting to make the next season, or the next new show.
